post-newspaper-zambia-reportsThe Post Newspaper, widely viewed as a PF aligned media outlet, has defended its article claiming former defence minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba had travelled to Luanshya on the Copperbelt to de-campaign the Patriotic Front.

An official from Fred M’membe’s newspaper named Sheikh Chifuwe was quoted by Radio Phoenix yesterday saying The Post will stand by the article.

Mwamba, popularly known as GBM, has given The Post 48 hours in which to retract the statement or face legal action. He is riled that the news publication a fabrication in a bid to settle political scores.

Below is the article published by The Post headlined PF HAS FAILED.

GEOFFREY Mwamba is on the Copperbelt decampaigning the PF and urging people not to vote for the party because it has failed to deliver on its campaign promises, says party member Menyani Zulu.

But Mwamba refused to comment on the matter when contacted and cancelled the call after the reporter introduced herself as being from
– The Post.

Zulu, the former Copperbelt Province youth chairman, disclosed that Mwamba, the Kasama Central member of parliament and former defence minister, was earlier in Luanshya where he de-campaigned the party and told residents to be strong because PF was leaving government in 2016.

“Mwamba has no shame because he was telling Luanshya residents in Luanshya town that, ‘mwebantu, PF is leaving government in 2016, koseni (Be strong). PF is leaving government because it has hiked mealie-meal prices and PF has failed Zambians’,” he said.

Zulu said Mwamba had been planning to penetrate the Copperbelt so that he could woo some PF members to his side to prevent the party from winning the 2016 elections.

He also said Mwamba was yesterday in Ndola to destabilise the party’s Masaiti and Mufulira district elections scheduled for tomorrow.

Zulu said Mwamba met with some PF cadres, including members of the Central Committee based in Ndola, Luanshya and Masaiti to discuss how they were going to disturb tomorrow’s elections.

“As a party we are aware of the presence of the former defence minister Geoffrey Mwamba on the Copperbelt and his interest is to destabilise the Saturday elections…,” he said.

“We know that he spent a night in Masaiti and our eyes and ears are on the ground. Mwamba can’t come in our territory to bring confusion. We are loyal members of the party and we love PF and President Michael Sata with all our hearts and we will not bow down to Mwamba. He is a nobody and we will soon bring him to shame.”

Zulu challenged Mwamba to leave the PF and wondered why he was still clinging on to the party he despised.

On Tuesday, Vice-President Guy Scott challenged Mwamba to leave the party if he was man enough, saying he won in Kasama based on the PF’s popularity in the area. And Patrick Zulu, who is standing as Masaiti district chairman, also confirmed Mwamba’s presence in the district and said he spent a night at a lodge belonging to his friend.
