Non Governmental Organizations have vowed not to register under the NGO Act of 2009 that they have described as draconian.
With the set deadline being today, the over 400 NGOs held a press briefing in Lusaka at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre and said they will wait for the law to be repealed as promised by the Patriotic Front government whilst in opposition.
NGOCC Board Chairperson Beatrice Grillo said it was better to wait for the new law that is under review than register under the current controversial law.
Grillo said the NGO Act contravened Article 21 of the constitution which was about association.
The NGOs will wait to see what action government will take after the deadline lapses today.
