The opposition Movement for Multi Party Democracy on the Copperbelt has challenged Anti Corruption Commission Director General Rosemary Wandi to resign following the recently opened investigation on Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba.
Publicity Secretary Yotam Mutayachalo said the ACC should clear the air on whether they had really done any investigation on then Defence Minister Mwamba or that they had folded to the whims of politicians and lied that they had cleared the Kasama lawmaker.
Mutayachalo said the ACC had lost credibility over the matter as they had shown that they were not capable of conducting independent investigations.
“We would like to call on the good lady the ACC Director General to resign following the recent happenings over the case involving former Defence Minister GBM.
“We are surprised that her institution publicly announced that they had cleared him of any wrong doing and on the contract to supply poles to Zesco but now the same contract that was said to be clean is under investigation,” he said.
“What really did the ACC do? We are of the view that the ACC is guilty of misconduct on this matter.”
The Zambia Police has opened investigations into GBM’s business empire seemingly on instructions from the government who were embarrassed by the former Defence Minister’s leaving his ministerial position after a difference with the Head of State.
