Hichilema-UPNDOpposition United Party National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema brought business to a standstill when he walked from the Livingstone Magistrate court through the city centre to the party office.

Hichilema, who was discharged of a charge of conduct likely to cause breach of peace during the highly volatile Livingstone parliamentary by-election, decried the abuse of the judiciary to sort out perceived political opponents.

The UPND leader was mobbed by his supporters and onlookers as he strolled through town.

He said there had been no need for the police to have arrested and detained him in a police cell for a case that was not valid.

Hichilema called for fast tracked judicial reforms to help restore the independence of the judiciary.

A ruling Patriotic Front cadre was killed during campaigns for the bloody Livingstone by-election with PF cadres and police laying the blame on UPND while others suggested that the ruling party cadre had been murdered by fellow PF members as they wrestled for campaign funds in a moving car.
