There may have been an aura of triumph among the Patriotic Front Members of Parliament when Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini announced the results for the vote on the motion on the constitution moved by Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament Garry Nkombo.
But then did the Patriotic Front MPs for once stop to think about what they were celebrating? Did it occur to them that they had just delivered the ultimate act of treachery against the very people that they had sworn to serve? Did they for once forget that they were the only ones celebrating against 13 million plus Zambians?
Of course with they were joined by Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba who is away on political induction in strife torn Sudan, Post editor Fred M’membe and His Excellency Michael Chilufya Sata who have elected to betray the wishes of the Zambian people.
Just as viciously as they had advocated for a new constitution in the run up to the 2011 elections they had vigorously staged an antithesis in the constitution you would think they had undergone brain surgery in 90 days or is sit two and half years.
Would they even stand listening to themselves when their arguments are replayed to them? Did they forget the proceedings were aired live on radio for the electorates to monitor their sentiments on this Grand National subject?
Not even the regret of former Foreign Affairs Minister Kabinga Pande on the lessons MMD are now bitterly learning from arrogance could move the PF to reconsider their position.
There could have been a thousand topics to politic about but the constitution is one subject the Zambians are united with one position.
Given the money that has been gobbled, the time spent and the need to match up the constitution to the demands of the current times the PF MPs should have thought better of their actions.
But as they delight in their triumph they should always remember that the Zambian people will be the ultimate judges and sooner or later someone will have to pay.
Posterity will be the best judge. For now HONOURABLES enjoy your victory while it lasts and we can only wish you good luck! After all you reap what you sow.
