hakainde-hichilema-zambia-politics-electionsUPND leader Hakainde Hichilema says the Patriotic Front wants to declare a State of Emergency to suspend the 2016 general elections.

During a media briefing, Hichilema also warned the police not to be used for partisan interests.

He said the State of Emergency that is in the pipeline will also be used to derail the constitution making process that is currently being demanded by various interest groups in Zambia.

The UPND leader, who was receiving defectors at the party secretariat, said the PF was also working on using their numerical advantage in parliament to increase the presidential term from five to eight years.

He said the PF thought that since they had failed to deliver in their first five years they were hoping to illegally increase their term of office.

The PF is currently refusing to accede to demands by the Zambian people to have a new constitution before the 2016 elections.

Despite the PF promising a new constitution within 90 days of being in power they have reneged on their promise.
