Following promises to form a picket line to prevent the controversial Permanent Secretary of the opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy Richard Kachingwe from reporting to office, National Youth Secretary Tobias Kafumukache has warned that any member of the party who will attempt to hound him out of office will be dealt with severely.
Speaking at a press briefing this morning, Kafumukache said there was a group of disgruntled youths within the party who were being sponsored to cause confusion.
“These are a few disgruntled youths who are trying to bring problems in the party leadership. We know that these are sponsored by other senior party members who want to force the national secretary out, but that will not happen.
Mr. Kachingwe is extremely unpopular among most MMD supporters, as he is suspected to have taken bribes from the ruling Patriotic Front party and appears to act on instructions from State House to weaken the opposition party from within.
Kafumukache said the attempts by a group led by MMD “Die Hard” youths leader to physically harass Kachingwe and lock up his office were unfortunate.
“This is unfortunate, we are warning them to stay away from the secretariat otherwise, we will deal with them. We will not allow this to happen because major Kachingwe is not the only MMD leader who has been to State House,” he said.
Kafumukache said if hounding Kachingwe was tasked to engage President Sata on matters that concern the party by the national executive.
“Major Kachingwe and Catherine Namugala were sponsored by the national executive to go to State House. If they want Kachingwe to leave the party, then the whole executive must follow the same procedure because they are the once who sent him.”
“In fact we know why major Kachingwe and Catherine Namugala went to State House, but there are other senior party members who have been to State House and we don’t know what they went there for. Why is no one asking Dora Siliya (party spokesperson) who she went to State House? Ask her because we don’t know why she went to State House,” he said.
Yesterday, some MMD youths led by Lusambo threatened to physically hound Kachingwe out of his office if he refuses to relinquish his position.
