Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) has decided to take over the operations of the internal water reticulation system at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
This comes after the meeting the company management held at its offices following the visit of President Michael Sata at the health institution.
Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company Public Relations Officer Topsy Sikalinda noted that the company values the condition in which the hospital operates hence the decision to take up the responsibility of the water system to ensure that there is adequate water supply for patients and other activities.
Sikalinda said the company is providing two lines at the health institution which includes the Lusakasa line that is water coming from the boreholes and the Independence line which is water from the Kafue river.
Mr. Sikalinda added that a team of qualified engineers has just been seconded to UTH and will be stationed there until further notice.
He said the water utility company will in the long term make recommendations for the lasting solutions to the matter.
Mr Sikainda further noted that the company has this afternoon written to the hospital management to inform them about the issue.
