Former Zanaco coach Keagan Mumba was yesterday laid to rest with hundreds, if not thousands, paying their last respects at Chawama grounds and Leopards Hill Memorial Park.
Defence Minister Edgar Lungu, who is also Chawama Member of Parliament, said Mumba had left a legacy of being a candid and truthful person.
Bolazambia reports that several football fans, players, administrators, government officials and the National Sports Council were present at an open air church service at Chawama grounds where Mumba made a name for his role in youth football.
Lungu said Mumba had at one time paid a heavy price for his penchant to speak to the truth as he was banned from football for three months.
“Keagan was a candid and truthful person. Keagan did not mince his words and called a spade, a spade,” he said.
“I am sure some of you here know that he paid dearly for his truthfulness.”
Mumba, 52 died on Saturday night at the Lusaka Trust Hospital after an illness.
Among the notables that attended were national team coach Patrice Beaumelle, Zesco United coach George Lwandamina, Masautso Mwale (Nkana coach), Patrick Phiri (Green Buffaloes), Oswald Mutapa (Red Arrows), Tenant Chilumba (Power Dynamos and Aggrey Chiyangi (Zanaco).
Sports administrators Andrew Kamanga, Keith Mwewa, Gift Chaipa and several others were in attendance with Julio Chiluba representing the Football Association of Zambia.
