The Oasis Forum says it is confusing that the draft constitution is back at the Ministry of Justice after Minister Wynter Kabimba had told the nation that his office was not the right custodian of the document.
Oasis Forum spokesperson Father Cleopas Lungu said it was very clear that the process was being taken for a joke by the Patriotic Front government.
On Tuesday the Technical Committee drafting the constitution acceded to the order by Ministry of Justice Permanent Secretary Joseph Akafumba to take the draft constitution to his office and ordered them to vacate their secretariat at Government Complex.
Kabimba had tossed back the draft constitution last year to the Technical Committee after they had taken it to his office following failed attempts to hand it over to President Michael Sata.
The Minister of Justice had said he could not receive the draft constitution because he was not the appointing authority.
“We are rather confused by the recent turn of events that the draft has been taken to the Ministry of Justice because as far as we remember the honourable minister had said that he is not the right person to receive the document,” he said.
“It is confusing that there are contradictory statements at every stage of this very important process.”
