Opposition Movement for Multi Party Democracy deputy National General Chembe Nyangu has revealed that the pro-extra ordinary convention advocates have failed to raise the one third prerequisite per province to call for a convention.
Nyangu said he could not push them to meet the requirement but could only facilitate once they met the requirement.
He said that he had not received any petition from the ‘rebel’ group led by two vice presidents Michael Kaingu and Brian Chituwo.
The Kaingu camp has been calling for an extraordinary meeting to replace party president Nevers Mumba.
Mumba accuses the group of being sponsored by the ruling Patriotic Front as a ploy to destabilize the former ruling party.
Other members of the Kaingu camp are party spokesperson Dora Siliya who is bathed in corruption charges and looking for a getaway from her woes and Lucky Mulusa believed to be eyeing the top post.
Kaingu was over the weekend on the Copperbelt trying to marshal support for the slowly fading out momentum to remove Mumba.
