sata fuelPump prices for fuel have gone up across the country following the sustained depreciation of the kwacha. This is contrary to President Michael Sata’s promise for lower fuel costs.

President Sata, as a PF opposition leader, heavily criticised fuel prices which were lower than what they are fetching today as often dramatised the situation to gain political mileage.

However, President Sata has overseen a sharp rise in prices of essential commodities. Subsidies on fuel and maize were also removed under President Sata.

The latest fuel increase will average an increment of 10% with petrol going at K10.63 per litre while diesel will be sold at K10.01 with kerosene pegged be at K7.48.

Overall the percentage increase in petrol is 7.22% while diesel is 8.75% with kerosene being 9.45%.

An increase in fuel prices will spark a general further increases in commodity prices with mealie meal prices already at an unacceptably high price.
