Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) president Nevers Mumba has dismissed as lies the projected bumper maize harvest for the 2013/2014 farming season.
Government has projected a bumper harvest for the 2013/2014 farming season with maize production expected to be over 3, 350, 671 metric tonnes.
But Dr. Mumba says the scientific projection government has made is a complete fabrication which people in the country should not believe.
Dr. Mumba says he is convinced that such fabrications are based on the same platform of the alleged lies the ruling Patriotic Front used to get into power in the 2011 general elections.
He says this is because it is already clear that Agriculture policies that can possibly support the projected bumper harvest have been misplaced.
“The scientific projection of the bumper harvest is a total fabrication just like the same lies they used to get into power,” he said.
Everyone knows that the agriculture policies have been misplaced and the economic projections have been false. You all know the story of inputs and also the effect of the rainfall pattern in some areas so this is all just one big lie.”
Mumba added: “Like with the economy there are no production figures to back up the alleged growth. The Zambians people through their miserable standard of living are testimony of the times they live in. if anyone is going to talk about a bumper harvest it should be in terms of the cost of mealie meal.”
The MMD leader states that it is also in the same vein that the other projections the government is making on the country’s economy are nothing but alleged lies as no Zambian in his right mind can believe such projections when the cost of living in the country has drastically gone up.
Dr Mumba says it is also clear that investments in country have slowed down.
He says this is the reason why Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda and Bank of Zambia (BOZ) Governor Michael Gondwe should step down on moral ground owing to the poor performance of the economy.
