World Soccer governing body FIFA expects to conclude investigations into allegations of corruption in the bids for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in which FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya has also been implicated.
Bwalya, who has confessed to writing the email published in the British Sunday Times newspaper where he solicited for US$80, 000 although he claims he only got US$ 50, 000 from former FIFA Vice President Mohammed Bin Hammam, will have to wait upon FIFA to know their fate.
The Sunday Times released more than 30 leaked emails out of “hundreds of millions” of documents it says it obtained, some of which point to evidence of alleged “slush funds” that apparently helped Qatar win its bid.
The documents relate to payments allegedly made by Mohamed Bin Hammam, the former executive member of FIFA, football’s international governing body.
Below is the FIFA communiqué:
In response to a number of inquiries concerning its investigation of the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Investigatory Chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee released the following statement:
“After months of interviewing witnesses and gathering materials, we intend to complete that phase of our investigation by June 9, 2014, and to submit a report to the Adjudicatory Chamber approximately six weeks thereafter. The report will consider all evidence potentially related to the bidding process, including evidence collected from prior investigations.”
