Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini has shelved off plans to summon opposition political party leaders to appear before select committees for making comments on the constitution making process.
Matibini had lined up a number of opposition political party leaders among them the All People’s Congress leader Nason Msoni, UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema but has had to back down after several parliamentarians approached to sit on the committees declined.
The formerly respected lawyer has come under fire for the ease with which he gives in to the whims of the ruling Patriotic Front in deliberations in parliament.
He had served summons on members who are not parliamentarians for criticizing the manner he handled the debate on the constitutional making process.
During the last sitting opposition Members of Parliament disrupted proceedings in the house protesting the continued dragging of the constitution making process.
