MMD president Nevers Mumba today made an appearance in court in another of the numerous cases lumped on him with an official from the Auditor General’s Office testifying against him.
This is in a case where Mumba has been dragged to court for alleged abuse of authority at the time he was serving as Zambia’s Ambassador to Canada.
The prosecution witness Joel Hamanyongo alleged that Mumba did not seek permission when opening a bank account in a foreign country and also that he could not explain payments to the Amayenge Cultural Ensemble who were invited to Canada on an exchange programme.
Mumba’s lawyers wondered why the auditors were focused on auditing money that was part of the sponsorship and not public revenue for the exchange visit.
The former Vice President is one of several opposition political parties that have been facing political harassment since the PF took over power.
