The opposition MMD says it is not planning to abolish the positions of vice president following the removal of Brian Chituwo and Michael Kaingu from their positions for allegedly bringing the name of the party into disrepute.
Party Secretary General Muhabi Lungu said that elections for the two positions and three others will be held by August to replace the dropped officials.
Lungu said party President Nevers Mumba may appoint an interim spokesperson as the position could not be vacant for a long time.
“It is not true that the MMD has abolished the positions of the two vice presidents. The two positions cannot be filled by appointment but we will hold elections to fill the two positions,” Lungu said.
“As for the position of spokesperson I think the President will appoint as they cannot stay vacant for a long time.”
The MMD stripped Chituwo, Kaingu, NEC member Lucky Mulusa, spokesperson Dora Siliya and youth chairperson Tobias Kafumukache.
