The number of women being discovered dead in mysterious circumstances in the Zambian capital, Lusaka, is increasing on an alarming rate.
Within one month, police has been called upon to collect bodies of four women which started with Ruth Mbandu of Matero.
Since Ruth Mbandu’s death, the spate of female deaths discovered in unexplained circumstances.
Another body was discovered in Matero before police collected the body in Chilenje of Mazuba Kapepwa.
The latest is the body of a 30-year-old woman of Ng’ombe Township that was found lying unconscious in a ditch.
Zambia Police Service deputy spokesperson Charity Chanda confirmed that Thandiwe Longwe’s body was discovered by police officers on patrol in the early hours of Thursday bring the number of mysterious deaths to four.
“Longwe’s body was found unconscious but with visible head injuries. She died on her way to Levy Mwanawasa Hospital. We are yet to ascertain the cause of her death,” Ms Chanda said.
Ms Chanda said Thandiwe’s body is lying at UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem. Provincial Commissioner Solomon Jere has assured that his men have intensified patrols countrywide to mitigate escalating levels of crime and has warned that anyone found loitering aimlessly after 20:00 hours will be arrested.
