education_minister_prof_geoffrey_lungwangwaNalikwanda Member of Parliament Geoffrey Lungwangwa says Members of Parliament should be granted access to the President to ensure that they have a clearer picture of what is happening.

Lungwangwa said the Vice President Guy Scott should facilitate for a meeting with the Head of State who has been tucked away from the public for almost one month.

He said information on the Head of State should not be a matter of speculation and that MPs had pending issues that only President Michael Sata could answer.

President Sata has not made any public appearance in 25 days and has within those days taken a trip to Israel where it eventually emerged that he was undergoing medical treatment.

“The president is one of us as Members of Parliament; he is elected by the people just like Members of Parliament are elected by the people,” Lungwangwa said.

“We are very concerned about his functionality and his well being at every stage so we are requesting the office of His Honour the Vice President to facilitate a meeting of the whips of parliament it is very important for us as parliaments.”

On Monday, State House released still pictures of President Sata allegedly chairing a cabinet meeting but with all the previous meetings having been a subject of heavily solicited media coverage, there are still questions why on this occasion the media were not invited or alerted.
