Parliamentarians’ attempt to smoke out the missing President Michael Sata continued in parliament with Vice President Guy Scott telling the House that he had transmitted their request to visit the Head of State to have an idea of his true state of health.
Scott last week promised parliament that he will push through their request for the parliamentary whips to visit the President. Below are excerpts of some issues that propped up in parliament:
Question: Request Muntanga (Kalomo Central MP): His Honour the Vice President you were answering questions pending from the last session. I asked you personally for the whips to visit the President and report back to the members. What have you done because this was an agreement and undertaking that you are going to come back?
Answer: Guy Scott: I have transmitted the request to State House and I am waiting for the response. As soon as I get the response within that hour I will communicate it to the honorable member.
Question: Kapembwa Simbao (Senga Hill): Mr Speaker I would like to find out from His Honour the Vice President what has become of judge Chikopa and what is the final destiny of the three judges?
Answer: Guy Scott: As I understand it Mr Speaker the matter is still in the Supreme Court and apart from that I have no information.
Question Moono Lubezhi (Namwala MP): The youth of Western Province Mr Speaker have been subjected to another garrulous behaviour by the Patriotic Front government. I would like to find out why they have dismissed 182 youths from Western Province some of whom were eployed by their newly created districts?
Answer: Guy Scott: maybe my memory is playing tricks but I recall that this issue was raised last week in the house. The point was the people in charge of recruitment of staff in the new districts exceeded the treasury authority in terms of non civil service members and they found themselves in limbo. They are not being paid when they have reported for work it is being dealt with as it happens, we were with the office with my Permanent Secretary and we are very close to finding a solution.
Kenneth Chipungu (Rufunsa MP): Your Honour Most of your tours are associated with by-elections; you only go to tour when there is a by-election. I want to find out if at all you have any programme to make tours to a number of constituencies or districts particulary Rufunsa which is devastated by the indiscriminate cutting of these Mukula trees?
Answer: Guy Scott: It is always useful to kill two birds with one stone even three. I was at the Lwiindi ceremony over the weekend. I understand there is a by-election somewhere in Monze but it is a local by-election but I was there with the honourable members who are staring the face now waiting for me to say the wrong thing although for me I attend a lot of ceremonies it is killing two birds with one stone it is meeting the chiefs and the people looking at development. It may be biased visiting one area again if you have a by-election in Rufunsa we will come.
