Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba today told parliament that The Patriotic Front government will not allow donor countries to run the affairs of Zambia because of their financial aid.
Kabimba was responding to a point of order raised over the government’s decision to start constructing president Michael Sata’s retirement house ahead of other former Heads of State.
When Kabimba was reminded that the decision would frustrate donors who are contributed to the national budget, he said donors never voted for the PF.
“What we are doing as PF is to change the planning for this. We cannot continue to have a backlog of houses to be built for past president. There is no need for the law in this matter that needs to be amended.”
“Mr. Speaker I am aware that there are some people here who sit with donors and drink tea with them hoping that they would govern this country. The donors are here to represent the interests of their countries by working with the government that was voted in power by Zambians. The donors will not govern this country. In fact, I never saw any donor queuing up to vote,” he said.
Wynter’s remark however irked the opposition who accused him of attacking the donor community.
According to a report published two days ago on the Zambian Watchdog website, Kabimba reported NGOs should leave his case to be handled by the ACC because he was not summoned by the NGOs or the civil society, but also commented that his case is a public one and wanted to be interrogated in public.
