The opposition Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED) has questioned the essence of having a legal and justice sector reforms commission before the country’s new constitution is enacted.
ZED president Frederick Mutesa says his party is of the view is that what should have happened is the speedy conclusion of the current constitutional making process and thereafter the amendment of subsidiary legislation to keep them in line with the new constitution.
Dr. Mutesa says his party holds the position that as things stand now the exercise being done by legal and justice sector reforms commission may have to be repeated after the constitution has been enacted.
He says if this was the case his party does not think that this should be the best way of using public funds.
The ZED leader notes that by first allowing legal and justice sector reforms commission begin its sitting before the constitution is enacted does not also indicate an exercise that will advance constitution order.
