As campaigns heighten for the August 19th Mangango parliamentary by-election, Political Activist Dante Saunders says observers are waiting anxiously to see President Michael Sata in person during campaigns in the Western Province.

Saunders said President Sata had been hiding for a very long time now, but people were anxious to see him running the width and breadth of the Mangango constituency ahead of the August 19th, 2014 parliamentary by-election.

He said Michael Sata had recoiled into a cocoon, but nature would have its own way of removing him from the self imposed seclusion.

Saunders said everyone in Zambia was aware that Michael Sata had evolved from a populist to a recluse adding that the republican president had an opportunity to redeem his lost fortunes once he reconciled with the people.

Saunders said Michael Sata’s hiding was like a pregnancy and the real reasons for his rare public appearances would be exposed with time.

“In fact, people will be happy to see Michael Sata talking and convincing people to vote for the Patrotic Front in Western province. He has no option but to go and campaign because if he doesn’t go there, it would be a very big setback for the ruling party,” he said.

Saunders said it would not help the Patriotic Front (PF) to allow Michael Sata abandon the election campaigns in Mangango because this would be a very big indictment on the face of the ruling party.

“There is no one who can listen to anyone in the PF because the people do not believe in anything that is PF anymore. we risk losing it all if we continue with PF,” he said.

He said the Mangango parliamentary by-election was a litmus test for the ruling party because its fortunes had been dwindling as a result of intra-party squabbles and its failed policies.

Saunders said the PF had an uphill battle to convince any reasonable Zambian to vote for any of its candidate in any future election because the ruling party has shown that it was not capable of being in charge of national affairs.

“This is the worst government that Zambia has ever had and it is everyone’s view that the PF must go and let a responsible and reasonable political party to take over. We are the observers and there is a resounding message that the PF has failed,” he said.

Saunders said the the people of Zambia would not be surprised if Michael Sata did not go to campaign for his party’s candidate in Mangango because hiding from the people he promised to rescue from the pangs of poverty and squalor was his new style of leadership.

He said the PF needed to go back to the drawing board to and re-think their come back because they had lost the confidence of the people of Zambia.

The electorate in Mangango go the polls of August 19th to elect a new Member of Parliament after the nullification of the seat, which was held by MMD’s Taundi Chiseke’s. Chiseke’s election was nullified following accusations of electoral corruption. Chiseke has defected to the ruling PF, but his attempts to recontest the seat were blocked based on the corruption that his election was nullified.
