The United Party for National Development in Western Province says intensified police roadblocks in Kaoma is aimed at intimidating the opposition ahead of the August 19 Mangango by-election.
UPND candidate Godwin Putu said only cars that were suspected to be connected with the opposition political parties were being searched while those of the ruling party were being let free.
The Zambia Police in Western Province have mounted roadblocks at Lonje and Katunda junction areas in what they say is an attempt to curb possible trafficking of dangerous weapons into the usually peaceful Mangango Constituency.
Residents of Mangango go to the polls on August 19 to elect a new area Member of Parliament after the nullification of the seat for MMD’s Taundi Chiseke by the Supreme Court.
