The opposition MMD has kept faith in its members whose seats were nullified by the Supreme Court by re-adopting them after the court ruled that they could re-contest their seats.
Party National Secretary Muhabi Lungu has unveiled the candidates for the September, 11 by-elections.
Below is the full statement:
“I am delighted to announce that the MMD has adopted the following candidates to stand for elections as Members of Parliament in the respective constituencies on September 11th , 2014 and shall be filling in their nomination papers on August 12th, 2014.” Mr Lungu said.
1.Ms Victoria Kalima to run in Kasenengwa Constituency.
2.Mr. Sydney Chisanga to run in Mkushi South Constituency.
3.Ms. Prisca Chisengo Pulu Kucheka to run in Zambezi West Constituency.
4.Dr. Eustarckio Kazonga to run in Vubwi Constituency.
5.Lucky Mulusa to run in Solwezi Central.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set 11th September, 2014 as date for the five pending parliamentary by-elections. This follows Supreme Court’s judgment of 3rd July,2014 which cleared the former Members of Parliament who had their elections nullified for engaging in electoral malpractices to re-contest their former seats.
