Zambia Bans Visitors from Ebola Hit Countries

joseph-katema-united-nationsZambia has taken the drastic step of banning people from the four Ebola affected West African countries from entering the country.

Health Minister Dr Joseph Kasonde has announced the move was done in consultation with SADC Health Ministers.

Ebola has ravaged some parts of West Africa killing over 900 people while over 1, 600 are grappling with the disease.

The affected countries are Liberia, Guinea, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

“We are with immediate effect not permitting people from the four currently affected countries to cross our borders into Zambia,” Kasonde said.

“We are doing a lot and have continued to do a lot, we can’t ever reach satisfaction on this matter because the situation because it is too serious. Essentially the plan is to control entry points for anybody entering Zambia.”
