The Foundation for Democratic Process says the presence of civil servants campaigning for the ruling party in Mangango constituency is responsible for the violence reported in the area.
FODEP Executive Director MacDonald Chipenzi says if there were no government officials using government transport and resources there could have been little hostility from opposing parties.
Luampa District Commissioner had his car smashed on a campaign excursion for the PF by suspected opposition political party cadres.
Recently PF campaign manager Obvious Mwaliteta was confronted by opposition political party cadres after they spotted him using his official government car on a campaign trail.
“The presence is civil servants campaigning in Mangango is partly responsible for the violence and anarchy in Mangango,” Chipenzi said.
“The law enforcement agencies should arrest all of them as their presence is against the Electoral Code of Conduct.”
Six candidates will contest the by-election. They include Alliance for Development and Democracy (ADD)’s Mweene Naluwa, UNIP’s Janet Chingumbe, MMD’s Charles Mwenzala, United Party for National development (UPND)’s Godwin Putu Fourth Revolution Party’s Mukumbuta Kabuyana and PF candidate Lyambai Lingweshi
The Mangango seat fell vacant following the Supreme Court nullification of area MP Robert Taundi Chiseke’s election on grounds of electoral malpractices.
