Three of the five parliamentary candidates that the Patriotic Front sought to block from filing their nomination papers for the September 11 by-elections have successfully filed in their nomination papers.
By press time Victoria Kalima of MMD had successfully filed for Kasenengwa, as well as Eustacio Kazonga for Vubwi and Sydney Chisanga for Mkushi South. Lucky Mulusa of Solwezi Central and Charles Kakoma of Zambezi West were awaiting their turn to file at press time.
For UPND, confusion erupted in Solwezi as two separate factions both claiming to represent the party showed up to file nomination papers.
One group is for Dawson Kafwaya, who has formally been adopted by UPND Secretariat, and the other one is headed by Watson Lumba, a former MP who also wants to file nomination papers.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia has since chased the two groups from the nomination center until they resolve their problem.
