Government and the Grand Coalition on the Constitution making process have had their first round of sparring at a meeting convened by newly appointed Justice Minister Edgar Lungu.
Lungu, who took over from fired Wynter Kabimba, convened a meeting where despite both parties cognizant of the respectful nature the meeting has been held the strong headed positions of old time still keep the two sides apart.
The Grand Coalition presented Lungu with their roadmap that have 2015 firmly as the delivery of a people driven constitution while the minister stuck to the hint at a long and winding process.
Among the sticky points were the immediate release of the draft constitution, the appointment of the referendum commission, the population census and the actual referendum.
Lungu said there was a process required before the draft constitution could be released and that there could be need for time to study the recommendations by both parties.
The two parties have agreed to meet within 10 days to address the raised concerns.
Among the notable attendees were Grand Coalition chairperson Father Leonard Chiti, NGOCC board chairperson Beatrice Grillo with Lungu flanked by ministry staff.
The constitution making process has drawn out with the 90 days initial promise by the Patriotic Front spilling into three years and no immediate solution in sight.
