The University of Zambia students have taken over the Commonwealth Youth Centre within the campus premises from the Ministry of Sports.
The students say they will turn the facility into hostels to accommodate students as a way of partly protesting Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili’s sentiments against them on bursary allocation.
UNZASU President Shepherd Mukinga better known by the students as ‘Simple Colonel’ led the pack who even took over the bus from the Ministry of Sports that was packed within the premises.
Mukinga said students had opted to reclaim the facility as the 40-year-old lease agreement had lapsed and the centre should be given back to the students.
The students provided documentation to back up their action of the takeover that is not yet certain if it will hold for long.
