MMD president Dr Nevers Mumba has said President Mchael Sata is afraid of contesting against him in the 2016 general elections.
Dr Mumba said he is aware that President Sata has directed his entire party and government machinery at him to notch him off the apex of the MMD. He said he cannot engage in a fight with his party members because he has identified the person creating all the confusion around MMD.
“If I’m not in jail, he is poaching our MPs, forcing some to resign to create by-elections or using some of our party members to fight me. All the government machinery is aimed at one person and one party. What does he want? I’m focused on running a party and preparing for elections in 2016. Why has he taken all his bazookas from the army worms, fight against poverty and turned them to towards an individual? The battle is coming from State House and we know that we are fighting Mr Sata. The goal is not to allow me stand against Mr Sata in 2016 but somebody that he can easily prevail over,” Dr Mumba said.
He said the alleged position by some of his party officials to review his duo party membership and the decision to expel Major Richard Kachingwe is all sponsored confusion.
Dr Mumba said he did not personally make any decision including the action to expel Maj Kachingwe but that it’s the National Executive Committee (NEC) that resolved to do so. He said his party officials were merely mentioning him because he was party president who has accepted to take responsibility for any decision made on behalf of the party.
He said he had received several complaints from members of parliament that Maj Kachingwe was eating with both hands and proposed a suspension to pave way for investigations. He said while under probe, Maj Kachingwe decided to stage a coup against him, a move that was unheard of.
He said afterwards the NEC resolved to expel him from the party and that he did not single handedly made the decision but rather came as a collective decision by NEC members.
“None of that had to do with me. The NEC convened and decided to expel Major Kachingwe and not Nevers Mumba. There is no new development and that party position remains the same and all the members of have agreed to it. That is why I don’t subscribe to the insinuation that Dr Chituwo has disagreed with me unless he chooses to disagree with the entire NEC. I’m just mention because I am a leader.”
MMD vice-president for administration Brian Chituwo yesterday said the NEC will soon meet to review the alleged duo party membership of Dr Mumba, for MMD and Republican Party. Dr Chituwo also hinted the NEC will review the circumstances that led to the expulsion of Major Kachingwe from the party.
