The opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy has announced that it will field Miniver Mutesa in the February 28th, Mpongwe parliamentary by-election.

Mutesa is a former district commissioner Mpongwe.

This according to a statement released by chairman for elections in the former ruling party, Kenneth Chipungu.

He said the party regards Mutesa as a bonafide member of the MMD who would represent the party well in Mpongwe.

When contacted for a comment, Mutesa said he was happy to be identified as the right candidate in the forthcoming by-elections.

He said the party stood on firm ground to defend the seat because the former member of parliament had disappointed the residents of Mpongwe by opting to join the PF.

“It is our goal to win the Mpongwe seat and I am humbled to be identified as that candidate. Off course we stand on firm ground in Mpongwe,” he said.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has set February 28th, as date for the Mpongwe and Livingstone Central parliamentary by-election.
