Sata to Attend AFCON Ceremony Today

michael-sata-zambia-reportsPresident Michael Sata is today expected to attend the official opening ceremony of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The official opening of the ceremony is set for 15:00 hours, an hour before hosts South Africa take on first timers Cape Verde at Soccer City Stadium.

According to a programme seen by Zambia Reports, President Sata will be part of the dignitaries at the event to be officiated by President Jacob Zuma of South Africa.

President Sata is also expected to visit African champions Chipolopolo in Nelspruit and give the team some morale before they face Ethiopia in the opening Group C match on Monday.

And ZNBC has announced it still has a shortfall of 250, 000 euros (about K1.8 billion – KR 1.8 million rebased) to televise the tournament which should be paid within the next seven day.

The corporation’s corporate affairs director Masuzyo Ndhlovu announced that Africa Cup of Nations television rights holders were asking for three times more than the 2012 edition.

Mining giant First Quantum Minerals yesterday gave ZNBC, the national broadcaster, K1.5 billion (KR 1.5 million rebased) for towards screening the rights to screen the Africa Cup of Nations.
