Political activist Dante Saunders has condemned government’s move to ban party cadres from accompanying their leaders who are summoned by law enforcement agencies.

Saunders has told Qfm news that the reason why supporters accompany their leaders is because they get concerned about the brutality which their leaders allegedly undergo at the hands of the police.

He says the move should be condemned at all costs as it does not present a good picture of a democratic dispensation.

The political activist has further expressed concern at the manner in which opposition political leaders are being suppressed by government.

He says home affairs minister Edgar Lungu’s decision is an act of dictatorship.

On Friday, Lungu announced the ban on escorts of either party cadres or a mob for any person summoned by police for questioning adding that the trend is a recipe for unruly behaviour and anarchy.

This follows the attack on a police officer at Lusaka’s Woodlands Police Station on Thursday by suspected United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres who escorted their leader Hakainde Hichilema to the police station where he was formally arrested.
