The Patriotic Front (PF) Chadiza district party elections have been marred with confusion after some candidates were allegedly denied their right to vote while the constituency committee has been accused of bribing the delegates, according to a report by ZANIS.
The District party elections have since been deferred to August 7, 2015 awaiting police clearance of some candidates who are being investigated .
According to the Constituency Information and Publicity Secretary Emmanuel Banda, the elections were supposed to take place on 29th July 2015.
Mr Banda said the district officials however rejected some eligible 24 member committee from each ward to vote and opted for only 12 hence bringing confusion as it was against the PF electoral guidelines.
Mr. Banda said the district officials also accused the constituency committee of having bribed the delegates with chitenge materials and salt and also that the they did not allow delegates who came from far away wards to vote adding that they were not eligible because they were allegedly ferried by an aspiring candidate.
He said three district officials allegedly broke into the house of the constituency chairperson and stole 178 pieces of chitenge materials and 4 by 50 Kg bags of salt which they said were being used as bribes when in fact it was meant for the chairperson’s own business.
Mr. Banda said the matter was reported to the police and that the elections will only be held after the trio is cleared.
He said one of the aspiring candidates has been sponsored by some opposition political parties to bring confusion to the PF party so that it loses popularity.
Mr. Banda said the ward committees have since expressed disappointment with the district committee and have threatened to pass a vote of no confidence if the confusion continues.
