NGOCC Questions Govt Hypocrisy on UTH Oxygen

UTH-WardThe Non-Governmental Coordinating Committee (NGOCC) is worried at government’s hypocrisy for failing to admit the shortage of oxygen at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

NGOCC chairperson Beatrice Grillo has wondered why government is trying to hide the plain truth that is a common secret to every Zambian.

Grillo said government should channel resources to improve the health sector instead of causing unnecessary by-elections and funding football games.

“If there is something wrong, you are better off owning up than hiding,” she said.

And UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has condemned chief government spokesperson Kennedy Sakeni for pleading ignorance about the shortage of oxygen at UTH and giving false information to the public.

“I think it is irresponsible for the PF government, in particular Mr Sakeni to deny that there is no shortage of oxygen at UTH. Most people in the country are aware of what is happening there. Does he think Zambians are fools who can be convinced by a lie and yet they are the ones directly affected by the problem?” he asked.

Sakeni yesterday denied that there is an oxygen shortage at UTH despite the admissions by the minister of health Dr Joseph Kasonde and UTH managing director Dr Lackson Kasonka.
