guy-scott-kwacha-zambia-reportsSpeaking in Mpongwe ahead of an upcoming by-election, Vice President Guy Scott has announced that the Patriotic Front (PF) government will soon start offering free secondary education in the country.

Dr Scott said this when he addressed the electorate in Mpongwe district on the Copperbelt ahead of the parliamentary by-elections.

He said government was determined to provide free but quality secondary education to citizens as stipulated in the PF manifesto.

The Vice-President said secondary school education would soon be declared free to ensure that all citizens had equal learning opportunities.

“As PF government we are working on a situation towards making secondary education free. And we are not just talking of making secondary education free but providing free quality education,” Dr Scott said.

He addressed residents of Mpongwe at a rally to drum up support for the PF candidate in the forthcoming Mpongwe Parliamentary by election, Gabriel Namulambe.

Dr Scott said to help the PF realize its goals, the people of Mpongwe should elect Namulambe as their member of parliament saying he was also the best candidate among the five that were vying for the seat.

He said under the Link Zambia 8000 project, many roads in Mpongwe would be upgraded and that unemployment in the country was equally being addressed through the Pave Zambia 2000 project.

“The PF Government is working hard to address unemployment in the country because this is the main problem affecting us. It is one of the biggest challenges facing our country at the moment,” he said.

And, Agriculture Minister, Emmanuel Chenda said government had sent 11,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer to Mpongwe for distribution.

Critics among the opposition have in the past complained that the ruling party uses public resources to curry favor with voters by providing extra goods and services to citizens around the time of parliamentary by-elections.
