The Foundation for Democratic Process has advised the Zambia Police service to rise above partisan politics in order to render itself relevant.
FODEP Executive Director McDonald Chipenzi says the police service should take advantage of the little confidence that citizens still have in the service to be professional.
Chipenzi states that the behaviour exhibited by the police during the UPND rally last week has the potential to make them irrelevant.
He says it not too late for the police service to be professional or it should have no one to blame if citizens start by-passing the police preferring to visit the ministry of Home affairs.
Chipenzi saysit is a constitutional and professional duty of the police to ensure that all citizens regardless of affiliation are protected.
