Senior Chieftainess Nkhomeshya Mukamambo II says she is saddened that President Michael Sata has renamed Shibuyunji district as Mwembeshi District.
The Chieftainess said she was not consulted of the sudden change of name and is demanding for an explanation over the move the move.
According to ZANIS, Chieftainess Nkhomeshya said this in Chongwe District yesterday when Lusaka Province Minister Freedom Sikazwe paid a courtesy call on her.
She said there was need to revisit the change of name because it was likely to create disunity among the people.
“ There is need for dialogue with traditional leaders and stakeholders when government makes such changes, “ she said.
She also expressed her shock to note that Mwembeshi district already has a District Commissioner who is already performing his duties.
Chieftainess Nhkomeshya has further called for coexistence of all stakeholders, government and the people of Mwembeshi District in order to promote development.
She said although the creation of more districts in her Chiefdom would take services closer to the people, dialogue was still important.
