It is risky enough for a country to have an alarmist for a leading opposition political party, but it becomes worse when the instruments of power are vest in an alarmist like Michael Sata. He is not only a danger unto himself or his family; he becomes a terror to his own people.
For the respect of the office he is holding, Michael, to borrow the language of his image panel beaters at The Post should either shut up or do more work. On Thursday, this dummy of a President went on a State House platform to make alarming statements.
Michael accused fourth Republican president Rupiah Banda, opposition leaders Dr Nevers Mumba (Movement for Multi-Party Democracy) and Hakainde Hichilema (United Party for National Development) of seeking criminal asylum.
Its either Michael has acute diarrhea of the mouth, which is developing into either dysentery or cholera, or his admiration for suicide bombers is now manifesting. This man seems ready to take Zambia down with him. How can one explain his false utterances before cameras? What kind of a president enjoys telling lies every time he appears in public. How passionately can this emperor be wedded to lies?
No doubt, this man assumed power through deception. But should he continue to discharge his powers through lies, calumny and false accusations of others? Be warned; Zambians are now more alert and much smarter than when Kenneth Kaunda left office.
If Michael believes lying, as he has always done, will help serve his dwindling popularity, not this time.
But does this man even have an effective intelligence system? Is Zambia really secure with this kind of foolishness exhibited by a Head of State? Some of this foolishness being displayed is seriously shocking.
Michael wants to put our warm, extremely warm relationship with South Africa on fire. He cares less that it is more criminal to go with stolen US $27, 000 to OR Tambo International Airport than it is for either Dr Mumba or Hichilema carrying a 40-paged document outlining empirical evidence of his government’s human rights abuses.
The opposition traveled to South Africa for purposes of presenting documented evidence of what a brutal regime is rising out of Zambia with the blessings of our present day Idi Amin Dada called Michael. Do you find it wrong? No! There is nothing wrong with that. They are just not like you, Michael, who goes to the United Kingdom or India (foreign soil) for treatment but chose to keep your people guessing. They are more than happy to tell Zambians their whereabouts and the mission even if it means a single day. That’s a mark of leadership.
Instead of facing their well articulated concerns to respond, Michael chooses lies just like he lies that he is in “somewhere in a safe place resting after working so hard” when he is admitted to hospital.
He jumped to accuse our opposition leaders of seeking criminal asylum. What is criminal asylum, anyway? Look at how our President is making a fool out of himself. So, can Zambians assume Michael was seeking “clinic asylum” in the UK or India after the AU summit in Addis Ababa recently?
While Hichilema and Dr Mumba are in court for tramped up charges as president Banda is being courted for investigations on alleged corruption, they have not been convicted of any crime. Therefore, they are not criminals. None of the three political figures have been convicted of any crime in their entire lives.
So, how do they qualify for criminal asylum if they are not criminals? Has Sata got legal advisers? It seems all these bunch of good-for-nothing lawyers are only interested in saying ‘yes sir’ than telling him what he is supposed to utter in public. Or they have left the naked emperor to expose not only his birth-suit but his stupidity to the public as well.
Look at even that former intelligence officer in charge of the Ministry of Information Kennedy Sakeni. Sakeni, instead of responding to the issues in the opposition document, whose details in the next week I will be breaking down for ease of understanding to readers brings in Dickson Jere – president Banda’s former press aide. What a joke of system! No wonder foreigners can come to Zambia and make off with wildlife without any of the security wings noticing. It is because of such characters like Sakeni.
In case Sakeni does not get anything on what is happening in the country, he should go to the only law licencing school where he will find Dickson. Some free notes to Sakeni, he does not need to spend a ngwee – Dickson has not been around president Banda in a while the last 16 months.
Dickson is busy or struggling to earn admission to the bar. If we had an intelligence system worth its sort, Sakeni will not make such unresearched and unfounded statements.
If a minister, the one you expect to brief and defend the President, can be as dull as Sakeni you wonder what sort of State House will be left of Zambia with a Michael who does not care about anything, not even the relationship with our neighbours. How will President Jacob Zuma interpret that asylum nonsense? Why drag his name in issues he has no idea about?
This is not the first time Sata is alarming us in the last few years as President. If we tolerated his alarmist behaviour when in opposition, he is making a mistake that we will continue embracing this foolishness.
As President, he has alarmed us about the gold scam dragging president Banda’s name in it, he alarmed us about the luxury Presidential vehicles, and he alarmed us on President George Bush and so many other incidents. He must be stopped. Michael will regret continuing on this path.
The only hope, anyway, is that someone brave helps tame Michael’s tongue. These lies must stop. If he can quit being the chain smoker he was, he can quit lies. He should not wait for another surgery because the consequences of helping him stop are too ghastly to contemplate.
Zambia does not need an alarmist for President. It is in dire need of a solution oriented President who by now should have responded to the issues raised by the opposition press briefing in South Africa and their 40-paged document to Commonwealth to restore confidence on both the local and international fronts.
