Zimbabwe Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has said the UN World Tourism general assembly will demonstrate that Africa has come of age.
Tsvangirai said Zambia and Zimbabwe need to collaborate in hosting the WTO and that the two governments are aware of the responsibilities that will come with hosting of the general assembly.
He said the hosting of the WTO general conference mean that Africa is the opportunity conference of the future.
“Therefore, tourism is not just about the source market of Europe, America and the North but about developing our own tourist potential in the south. On that score, I am very confident that we will host this general assembly successfully like we demonstrated during the World Cup in South Africa,” he said.
Zimbabwe Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara said there is need for a broader approach in finding solutions affecting the southern African region.
Mutambara said Zambia and Zimbabwe will not make it as individual countries but that it has to be approached as a regional body as SADC, COMESA and African Union.
He said there is need to move away from a national paradigm to regional and continental paradigm for the general conference to succeed and survive under globalization.
