Zambia’s inter-club representatives, Zanaco and Power Dynamos, started their international fixtures on a winning but unconvincing scale at the weekend.

Zanaco were 3-2 winners over Mbabane Swallows of Swaziland in the Confederations of African Football (CAF) Champions League first leg preliminary round on Saturday while Power Dynamos collected a 1-0 win over Recreativo da Caala of Angola on Sunday.

Both teams will travel away in two weeks for return fixtures. Zanaco should avoid a 1-0 defeat and play to a draw and could be well out of the race while Power must also not concede in Luanda.

Govendar Simwala scored the all important goal for Power at Arthur Davies Stadium in a match the home team fielded star player Mukuka Mulenga in an unfamiliar attacking role costing them creative abilities in midfield.

Power are hoping their Confederations Cup journey does not end in Angola where they hope to secure a place to the next round.

Goals from Kabuku Maunga, Roderick Kabwe and Henry Banda made Zanaco 3-2 winners at home to the Swazis. The results have been received with mixed feelings because there is little hope the two Zambian clubs will make serious contenders for the title with unconvincing home performances.
