Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda challenges lawyers to rise above monetary gains.
In a speech read on her behalf by acting Deputy Chief Justice Florence Mumba when swearing in 62 advocates today, justice Chibesakunda said the high legal fees were an
impediment to people accessing justice.
Justice Chibesaknda said high legal fees have a number of implications and were undesirable in the campaign to offer justice to the poor.
She said the challenge in society was for everyone to access justice but this was not currently tenable because of high legal fees.
Justice Chibesakunda said the high legal fees has the potential to erode confidence in the legal profession.
There were 62 lawyers admitted to the bar today after successfully completing a licencing programme at the Zambia Institute of Legal Advanced Studies (ZIALE) which has recently come under attack for a poor pass rate.
