Zambia’s founding President Kenneth Kaunda left hospital yesterday after medical experts discharged him following three days of complete bed rest.
Kaunda ,88, was taken ill on Friday at the funeral of his late wife Mama Betty Kaunda, 84, who died last week Wednesday in Zimbabwe.
According to the head of the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Kaunda was now in a stable condition had should be able to attend his wife’s burial set for Friday in Lusaka.
Mama Betty Kaunda’s burial was shifted from Chinsali, her home town in the newly created Muchinga province, to Lusaka at the family home in State Lodge area.
Dr Luckson Kasonka said Dr Kaunda has recommended continued rest for Kaunda. The period for national mourning in honour of Mama Betty Kaunda was extended to Friday after burial was suspended last Saturday – the day her body was due to be ferried to Chinsali for burial.
