The Lusaka High Court has refused to grant expelled Itezh Tezhi UPND lawmaker Greyford Monde leave to stay the party’s decision after he accepted a ministerial job in President Michael Sata’s government.
Monde was hoping to get a court injunction against his expulsion and drag the court process to continue as a parliamentarian while serving in the PF government.
The development has crashed Monde’s hopes of remaining in government while surviving on an injunction to remain in Parliament.
Thus, the youthful MP remains expelled and a by-election will now have to be held in the area.
Meanwhile, UPND deputy spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said Monde was given ample time to exculpate himself but instead decided to issue unauthorised media statements.
Mweetwa said the former UPND MP, Monde, should not worry about the court decision because he will still have the right to defend his seat in Itezhi Tezhi as he claims to be popular in the area.
