The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has cried foul that the ban on campaigns in the 14th March rescheduled Livingstone parliamentary by-election will only work to the advantage of the ruling Patriotic Front.
Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) postponed the by-election citing the violence that claimed PF member Harrison Chanda’s life.
UPND vice president Richard Kapita says although the party is not in denial with the decision that has been taken by the ECZ, it feels the move is a setback because it was geared to scoop the seat.
Kapita says the ruling Patriotic Front will take advantage of the ban to abuse state machinery by disguising campaigns into government programmes.
Kapita has since warned that if the ECZ does not keep an eye on such activities, his party will not hesitate but to also follow suit and campaign.
