There were celebrations at Shinde Stadium today as Zanaco FC beat Mufulira Blackpool 1-0 via an Augustine Mulenga goal and then lifted the K100,000 ($10,000) worth Zambian Super League trophy.
The match began with the whipping boys of the league Blackpool giving Zanaco Fc a guard of honor but on the pitch Blackpool shocked The Bankers with some positive play and striker Patrick Kongolo’s shot was brilliantly saved by Toaster Nsabata.
The Muf lads who were looking for their first win of the season seemed intent to get a win but their hearts were broken in the 44th minute when Zanaco Fc winger Augustine Mulenga entered the box and dummied two players before beating Ruben Chilala in the Blackpool goal.
The second half saw no goals as Zanaco held onto the lead until the Final whistle blew and the players broke into celebrations together with some travelling Zanaco fans.
It was sweet victory for the likes of Rodrick Kabwe who had sat down on the Nkoloma Turf in 2014 after he and other Zanaco players couldn’t believe how they were beaten by Red Arrows 4-0 in the final day to let the title slip from them.
