Singer Dandy Krazy popular for producing the Patriotic Front hit campaign song “Donchi Kubeba” during the last general election has been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for possessing cannabis.
The DEC arrested the singer whose real names are Wesley Chibambo in Luanshya today after finding the singer with 14 grams of cannabis contrary to the laws of Zambia.
DEC says he is being detained in police custody and will appear in court soon.
In 2011 after winning the elections, President Sata honoured Dandy Krazy with the Companion Order of Freedom First Division in recognition of the role he played in bringing the Patriotic Front (PF) into government through his song, Donchi Kubeba (Don’t Tell Them) which encouraged voters to receive bribes from the then ruling MMD but vote for Sata.
Since then, the singer has always attended President Michael Sata’s events including the State Banquet for National Team players after Zambia won the 2012 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations Soccer trophy.
He was also part of President Sata’s entourage in Livingstone where the Head of State went to campaign for the PF candidate ahead of the Livingstone parliamentary by-election last month.
Dandy becomes the third music figure in recent years to be arrested for cannabis possession after Nasty D who was arrested in July 2003.
Zambia Association of Musicians Michael Zulu was also arrested and pleaded guilty to dagga smoking in 2009 and served six months conditional suspended sentence.
