United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema says his party is ready for dialogue provided that the Patriotic Front respects human rights and the rule of law.
And Mr. Hichilema has asked the Human Rights Commission to be proactive and ensure that meaningful dialogue in the country takes place.
Speaking in an interview with Qfm news, Mr. Hichilema says dialogue is the only way to resolve pending issues in the country’s governance system.
The UPND leader has however stated the much anticipated dialogue cannot take place if the ruling party which is at the center of human rights abuses is not willing to dialogue with concerned Zambians.
Mr. Hichilema says the ongoing problems in the country will not be resolved through suppressing divergent views or insulting those with brilliant ideas.
He says government must realize that fostering development is a responsibility of every Zambian regardless of political affiliation.
Meanwhile, the National Restoration Party (NAREP) has called on all political players to seriously look into the causes of political misunderstanding in the country.
Speaking in a separate interview, NAREP National Chairperson Joseph Mushalika says there is also need to create a level playing field on the political platform.
Mr. Mushalika observes that failure to address issues of contention on the political scene will lead the country nowhere in as much as democracy is concerned.
He says every political player must be duty bound to promote good practices in Zambia’s politics.
