Chipolopolo coach Herve Renard has launched a scathing attack on Democratic Republic og Congo side TP Mazembe accusing them of not helping Zambian players.
Renard was speaking in the wake of Zambia’s 1-all draw away to Lesotho in a Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier.
The Frenchman cited defence kingpin Stophilla Sunzu who has been shuttling between England and Lubumbashi chasing his European dream.
Renard also lamented the fact that most of his players were inactive at their clubs.
“You have to understand that in this team we have so many players who are not playing,” he said.
“Stophilla Sunzu, why did he miss the header? He is one metre 90 centimetres, he was not supposed to miss the header, the goal is behind him and Kennedy Mweene got the red card these are the small details in football.”
He added: “The problems of TP Mazembe affect a lot the national team.”
He said that the Zambian league was not any competitive
“It is difficult to find the Zambian (national team) players in the local league, you can see Orlando Pirates beat Zanaco 1-0 at home it was a very easy game for them,” he said.
“That means there are some questions you are supposed to ask about the performance of our local league.”
He said, “It (Zambian league) is average, when the second goalkeeper (Joshua Titima) came maybe he was not ready yet at the international level because there is no goalkeeper coach in Zambia for all the teams. I am not looking for excuses.”
Renard said Chisamba Lungu had not had enough game time at his club while Mukuka Mulenga was not at his best capacity hence leaving the duo on the bench.
Zambia drew 1-all away to Lesotho during a Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier in Maseru.
